Rt Hon David Davis MP New Years Message

I would like to wish all members of the Association a very Happy New Year.
2017 was an eventful year both locally and nationally, and 2018 similarly looks set to be an interesting time for us all.
The national result in last year's General Election was clearly not the result we wanted. However, here in Haltemprice and Howden it was a great honour to be returned as MP with a significantly increased share of the vote. Thank you all for your support over the past year and I hope that I can continue to count on it in the year to come.
Despite regular doom and gloom in the press, we have secured a successful outcome in the first round of negotiations with the EU. Both sides have now agreed to begin negotiations on the implementation period, as well as the future relationship between the UK and the EU. The national focus this year will continue to be on securing the best deal for Britain in the Brexit negotiations.
The UK economy continues to be a great success. Yorkshire is one of the biggest job creating regions in the country and unemployment is at its lowest level in over four decades. In 2018 we will continue our work to build an economy that is fit for the future and a stronger and fairer society for everyone.
I hope that the festive period has allowed you time to relax and recharge your batteries for what promises to be an exciting New Year. Whether internationally, nationally or locally, the coming year will bring challenges and adventures for us all.
I send you my very best wishes for a happy, healthy and successful 2018.
